 New Yorkers for Real Immigration Reform Look to Congressman Grimm to Lead the Way

Public Policy Polling (PPP), a nonpartisan organization that employs Interactive Voice Response (IVR) technology to poll on a wide range of issues, released a new poll showing that 69% of voters in Staten Island and Brooklyn support comprehensive immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship. The results come out one day before House Republicans meet in Washington, DC, for an immigration summit to determine how to move immigration reform forward.

On Friday, the authors of the Senate bill for immigration reform and Senators Bob Corker (R-TN) and John Hoeven (R-ND) negotiated a new immigration deal that would cost the U.S. government $30 billion dollars--nearly doubling the number of border patrol agents, adding an additional 350 miles of fencing along the southern border, and mandating “triggers” that could endanger the path to citizenship.

Today, on the steps of City Hall in New York City, New Yorkers for Real Immigration Reform, a statewide coalition of 150 business, labor, faith and grassroots organizations coordinated by the New York Immigration Coalition, held a press conference to launch ‘Remember November,’ a series of actions in the next phase to pass immigration reform. The campaign was joined by Congressman José Serrano, a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and longstanding advocate for immigration reform.
