NYIC Leader Speaks to 200,000 at Immigration Rally

Below are the remarks of Ms. Chung-Wha Hong, executive director of the New York Immigration Coalition, to be delivered at the close of today's March for America.

"We are almost at the end of our rally. Now the real work begins.

To Senators Graham and Schumer, we say thank you for your leadership; to the rest of Congress, we say join them to get legislation done.

To President Obama, we say you must lead. We know your vision is grand enough to include an immigration system our nation can be proud of. Take the momentum we've generated today and use it to turn your promise into reality.

To Congressman Gutierrez, you are our hero. Your message of justice and action inspires all Americans to realize the best of ourselves as a nation.

And to all of us, lets go back and organize. Just like we mobilized for today in church basements, union halls, community centers, on campuses, on rural farms, in small towns and big cities, let’s go back and continue to organize.

Because we can break the Beltway gridlock. Because we can expose the political double talk. Because we can generate courage and hope for our entire nation.

Today, we did not march for ourselves. Today we marched for America. Si se puede!"
