About the NYIC

The New York Immigration Coalition aims to achieve a fairer and more just society that values the contributions of immigrants and extends opportunity to all. With nearly 200 member organizations, the NYIC helps foster immigrant community leadership and civic engagement, and puts immigrants at the table in the major public policy debates of the day. Through community engagement, policy advocacy, and training, the NYIC supports our members and provides a unified voice and a vehicle for collective action for New York’s diverse immigrant communities.

As the NYIC works to develop our Immigrant Entrepreneurship Initiative, we are seeking proposals from consultants or member organizations to conduct a landscape analysis of existing services and resources and develop materials and activities supporting immigrant entrepreneurs, focusing on individuals who might consider starting an LLC or other type of business.

Specific activities should include:
Mapping existing resources for immigrants creating businesses in New York, as well as need for different types of information and services; identifying gaps. Will include creation of written product outlining findings and recommendations
Working with NYIC staff and members to identify opportunities where NYIC can strengthen those activities or address unmet needs
As appropriate, helping to develop resource materials for potential entrepreneurs as part of the NYIC's Key to the City events in public schools. (Note that the NYIC has already completed research on the legal, immigration, and tax implications of creating businesses, but would seek the consultant to help translate that into culturally competent, plain language)

HOW TO APPLY

3-5 years experience working with entrepreneurs, small businesses, or small business development. Applicants should be familiar with the small business landscape in New York City. Experience working with immigrant communities or immigrant-owned businesses in New York is a strong plus. Proficiency in a second language is an asset.

Interested individuals or organizations should submit a proposal to mfortin@nyic.org describing their qualifications, proposed activities, and fee no later than December 20, 2017. Nonprofit organizations and NYIC member organizations are encouraged to apply.
