We launched "This Is Our New York" - now we need your help

This past Saturday, the New York Immigration Coalition launched our new campaign - "This is Our New York" - on a national day of action for immigrant rights. The campaign aims to protect, defend and stand up for immigrant New York through comprehensive outreach, community education, legal services, advocacy, organizing, capacity building, and public engagement - for our New York.

With the inauguration of President-Elect Trump happening today, and with major threats to immigrant communities at play, we have one simple question: Will you help us to sustain this critical campaign by donating today?

Here's a re-cap of our campaign launch:

On Saturday, January 14th, the NYIC brought 300 people to join over 2,000 more at DC’s Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church for the #HereToStay rally to build momentum to prevent deportations, preserve the DACA program, and create sanctuaries of safety and deportation defense networks in cities, schools, churches and states.

At the same time, our campaign launched in New York, with street teams put together by the Coalition and our members in Union Square and the Lower East Side in Manhattan; Corona, Queens; the Hudson Valley; and Hempstead, Long Island. They engaged New Yorkers in a social media campaign (#OurNY), asking "What's your New York?" to demonstrate support for New York’s immigrant communities. The launch garnered an enormous response, with over 100 New Yorkers lending their faces and hearts to the campaign, and pledging to stand up for immigrant New York.

The energy of resilience and support for immigrant communities were palpable in both D.C and New York last Saturday. It was a much-needed reminder that our New York is compassionate, inclusive and welcoming in the face of hatred and fear. Our New York is neighbors working together towards a better future for all of us. Our New York stands with immigrant New York - won't you stand with us?

Want to get involved? You can still join the #OurNY campaign to elevate our work!

You can join us on social media using the hashtag #OurNY. Tell us what your New York is following these three steps:

1: Download and print the “#OurNY” visual. (It's also fine to write your own message and take a picture.)

2: Tell us what your New York is by taking a picture of yourself holding your sign or making a short 10 second video. For exampleMy New York welcomes immigrants! My New York is inclusive and compassionate! My New York is my immigrant family and their contributions to our community!

3: Tweet your photo/video and tag @theNYIC and use hashtag #OurNY.

New Yorkers in Union Square share what New York means to them and lend their faces to the "This is Our New York" campaign to protect and defend immigrants.

 We want you to know - this is just the beginning.

Over the next few weeks and months, we'll continue to:

  • Connect more immigrants with legal resources;
  • Continue fighting for access to quality healthcare, education, and more;
  • Mobilize immigrants and allies to fight unjust legislation;
  • Provide critical updates and support around any federal policy changes;
  • Support our coalition members in their crucial work; and
  • Amplify the voices and power of immigrants with the #OurNY campaign.

Help us keep the momentum going by donating to the NYIC today.

Thank you for standing with Immigrant New York!
