Two Actions You Can Take to Help Make New York State DREAM a Reality!

Thursday, March 20, 2014

On Monday evening, the New York State Senate dashed the dreams of thousands of undocumented young people when itvoted down the New York State DREAM Act. With the DREAM Act, undocumented immigrant students would be able to apply for state tuition assistance, open up State college savings accounts, and apply for a private scholarship fund. But in a rushed vote widely perceived as a cynical political move, the New York State DREAM Act came up two votes short.

In the coming days, the New York Immigration Coalition, together with our partners from the DREAM Act Coalition, will continue to ramp up the pressure and demand action from Governor Cuomo and Senate leadership to include the DREAM Act in the final budget by April 1st.

We will not stand defeated and there is still much we can do! The time to act is NOW!

Here are two simple you can take to keep the NYS DREAM Act alive:

1. Please take a moment today to call your state Senator and urge their support for the New York State Dream Act to be included in the final state budget resolution. Call (888) 833-7428 to be connected to your state Senator through the switchboard

2. TWEET: I urge @NYGovCuomo, @SenatorSkelos, @JeffKleinNY to put #NYDREAMAct in the state budget. Invest in #NY #immigrant youth! @thenyic
