Position Overview

The Director of Immigrant Services Support will lead a newly created program within the organization, enhancing the level of support the NYIC provides to our member organizations that provide direct services.  The Director will oversee the Immigrant Concerns Training Institute providing training on immigration law as well as a variety of other topics, manage coordination and support for a variety of immigrant-serving events, and provide technical assistance to legal and social service providers.  Events include varying degrees of participation in legal clinics as well as organization of monthly Key to the City events in public schools, which bring consular services, legal clinics, financial literacy education, and wraparound services to hundreds of underserved immigrants throughout New York City.  The Director will also lead the NYIC’s role in coordinating rapid response legal work in collaboration with NYIC members and partners.


Key Responsibilities


Support for Immigrant Service Providers

  • Lead strategy and execution of broad, collaborative initiatives with NYIC members to provide critical services for immigrant communities
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with legal and social service providers throughout New York State, funders, elected officials, and strategic partners and allies; share information and serve as a resource for partners
  • Maintain a birdseye view of immigrant services throughout New York as well as emerging needs and opportunities to provide support for NYIC members
  • Conduct trainings on aspects of immigration law on which Director has expertise
  • Help develop and vet training curricula including specialized curriculum for Immigration Navigators, a new program for non-lawyers who are volunteers or staff of community-based organizations



  • Serve as spokesperson for NYIC when necessary
  • Oversee program budget and support development efforts by identifying and cultivating potential funding sources and preparing proposals and reports



  • Lead Immigrant Services Support team to strengthen NYIC member organizations’ ability to serve community members, working with senior leadership to identify priorities and design activities to accomplish them; support team to accomplish goals, comply with regulatory and funder requirements, seamlessly handle logistics, and provide excellent customer service
  • Build and supervise team of staff, fellows, and volunteers
  • Motivate staff, manage performance, guide professional development, and provide key feedback.


Qualities Sought

  • Knowledge of immigration law and immigration legal services, law degree or DOJ Accreditation preferred
  • At least 5-7 years of relevant professional experience; experience will ideally include leading training, adult education, and / or organizing service events such as legal clinics
  • Experience with managing and supervising a team and supporting professional development of direct reports; ability to provide leadership, oversight, or hands-on support as necessary
  • Deep understanding of the challenges faced by immigrant-serving and immigrant-led organizations
  • Ability to lead fundraising and communications efforts is an asset
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends when necessary
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple tasks
  • Fluency in Spanish or another language highly encouraged.
