NYIC to Ring NASDAQ Closing Bell Monday, June 25th;
Ceremony to be Broadcast on NASDAQ Tower
DATE: Monday, June 25, 2012
3:30-4:30 p.m.: NYIC Displayed on NASDAQ Tower in Times Square—Come on Out!
You may have come to our 25th anniversary celebration last week, when we honored five champions, including Robert Greifeld, chief executive of the NASDAQ OMX Group and proponent of immigration reform, and Jose Antonio Vargas, Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter, founder of Define American, and DREAMer.
Within days of our event, two things happened:
- President Obama announced that young undocumented people who meet certain criteria could remain here and apply for work authorization [see the NYIC’s press statement] ; and
- Jose Antonio Vargas published his cover story in Time, a beautifully detailed accounting of our immigration system and of what has happened in the year since he came out as undocumented in a New York Times Magazine essay.
On Monday, June 25th, NASDAQ has invited the NYIC to ring the closing bell in a ceremony from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. During this hour, the NASDAQ Tower—a seven-story screen in Times Square—will feature the NYIC!
The NYIC dedicates this event to the DREAMers who put themselves on the line, to our member organizations, friends, and supporters who are the heart and soul of the NYIC and embody the spirit of coalition, and to the promise of immigration reform.
An invitations for Monday, June 25th:
3:30 – 4:30 p.m.: If you are in the neighborhood, please come out to Times Square and check out the NYIC as displayed on the Nasdaq Tower!
