Photos of NYIC's Annual Meeting and Holiday Party

On December 7th, the NYIC and our members spent some quality time together, enjoyed each other's company, and celebrated what we have accomplished this year at our annual meeting and holiday party!

Some of the victories that our member groups celebrated included:

  • We got the Obama administration to promise not to deport “low priority” cases. The 10,000 letters sent to the White House through the NYIC’s “Stroke of a Pen” campaign added to the pressure that made this change possible.
  • Governor Cuomo issued an executive order to ensure that state agencies provide language assistance to the 2+million New Yorkers who are still learning English—a culmination of more than a decade’s worth of state-level advocacy!
  • The NYS Board of Regents, the State Education Commissioner, and several state legislators have committed to expanding educational opportunities to all students, regardless of status—giving renewed hope to many immigrant youth who were devastated by the defeat of the federal DREAM Act.
  • We launched our NYC Family Resource Center initiative - school-based partnerships between schools, community groups, and parents - that aim to increase immigrant parent engagement and improve immigrant student outcomes.

And as the NYIC goes into it's 25th year, we have so much more to accomplish and we look forward to doing that together!  Please consider making a donation to the NYIC, so we can continue to carry out and expand critical work that serves the needs of immigrant communities and the country at large.
