Become an NYIC member in 2017!

The New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC) is excited to begin our 2017 membership drive! The NYIC advocates for a strong New York State that welcomes and provides equal opportunities for all citizens, both immigrant and native-born.

President-elect Trump campaigned on an aggressively anti-immigrant platform. The time is now to unify and protect our friends, families, and communities. Join the NYIC to gain access to the resources your organization needs to fight most effectively. We are committed to ensuring that our members are as strong and effective as possible.

Together, we will have the strength to face any challenges during the next four years! To become a member, click here: http://www.thenyic.org/2017membership.

Here are six reasons to become an NYIC member today:

  1. Get more staff resources, like an Americorps VISTA fellow!
NYIC members can apply for low-cost fellows, including Americorps VISTAs, during 2017-18. During 2016-2017, 9 member organizations in New York City, Long Island, Westchester, Albany, and Buffalo received staff support through NYIC’s VISTA program.

The NYIC VISTA Host Site Application will be released later this month Don’t miss the deadline! Become an NYIC member and apply for a VISTA at the same time. VISTAs can help you accomplish more community outreach and community-building, improve communication with your community members, and do more effective fundraising.

NYIC members get training to harness this volunteer power and build a culture of volunteerism long-term at your organization!

  2. Access financial resources!
Become a NYIC member to qualify for regrants! The NYIC is exploring a collective approach to fundraising. There is an urgent need for fundraising coordination and cooperation as we move to protect and defend our communities under a Trump presidency. The NYIC is leading discussion around collective fundraising and coordination in order to respond to President-elect Trump’s anti-immigrant policies and legislation. As a NYIC member, you can be a part of this thought leadership, and get more financial resources.

  3. Receive in-depth legal and immigration training!
NYIC offers trainings on immigration law (and continuing legal education credits) and a broad range of other topics, reaching thousands of legal service providers and other non-profit staff each year.

We also offer additional capacity building programs, such as the Immigration Navigator Training program, that teaches non-lawyers about basic general immigration law and options. The program also teaches non-lawyers how to navigate the immigration system. Member organization staff have access to these trainings.

  4. Get more meaningful contact with elected officials!
As a part of NYIC, you will have access to elected officials that carry real weight. NYIC organizes Lobby Days during which members have opportunities to have meaningful conversations with influential elected officials and decision-makers at the City and State levels. It also organizes Leadership Summits that provide similar opportunities. We keep updated information about the elected officials and their staff.
