The New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC) is an umbrella policy and advocacy organization for nearly 200 groups in New York State. We envision a New York state that is stronger because all people are welcome, treated fairly, and given the chance to pursue their dreams. Our mission is to unite immigrants, members, & allies so all New Yorkers can thrive. We represent the collective interests of New York's diverse immigrant communities and organizations and devise solutions to advance them; advocate for laws, policies, and programs that lead to justice and opportunity for all immigrant groups; and build the power of immigrants and the organizations that serve them to ensure their sustainability, to improve people's lives, and to strengthen our state.

Position Overview
Works closely with NYIC senior leadership to win the NYIC’s immigration policy agenda on the federal, state and local levels; leads strategy in engaging NYIC members across New York State in advocacy; manages the statewide Membership Engagement team.

Reports to: Vice President of Advocacy

Key Responsibilities
Leadership

  • Works with NYIC senior leadership and policy team to identify goals and priorities, and define campaign strategies and timelines for immigration policy advocacy
  • Leads Membership Engagement team to engage NYIC members in advocacy campaigns
  • Leads effort to develop local advocacy campaign(s) in key areas across the state

Organization

  • Ensures integration of Membership Engagement team with other organizational efforts
  • Works with Communications team to do media outreach, including organizing press events, drafting media alerts and releases, developing talking points, social media, etc.
  • Serves as spokesperson for NYIC and its campaigns when necessary
  • Leads efforts to stand up “rapid response” efforts when necessary
  • Works with senior leadership to oversee program budget
  • Supports development efforts by identifying and cultivating potential funding sources and preparing proposals and reports as needed

Relationship Management

  • Leads effort to build and maintain a strong, statewide multi-ethnic and geographically diverse group of NYIC member organizations
  • Leads effort in engaging NYIC member organizations to play leadership role in effective advocacy and organizing around campaigns
  • Leads team to engage NYIC member organizations in local convenings across the state
  • Works with VP of Advocacy and other NYIC program staff to ensure successful coordinated outreach to electeds on city, state and Federal levels.
  • Develops and manages relationships with strategic allies involved in campaigns

Management

  • Supervises team of growing Membership Engagement staff in different state locations
  • Manages performance, guides professional development, and provides key feedback
  • Ensures proper teamwork with other NYIC staff

Qualities Sought:

  • Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and executing long-term strategies
  • At least 5-7 years of relevant experience, including demonstrated leadership of a team and ability to successfully supervise numerous team members to achieve key objectives
  • Deep understanding of and experience in coalition-building and grass-tops organizing
  • Strong knowledge of political landscape and elected on local, state and Federal levels
  • Ability to lead fundraising and communications efforts
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple tasks
